Cool Etsy Artist To Check Out: Creative Thursday

What do I love about Creative Thursday? Well just about everything. Marisa, the artist behind Creative Thursday, makes these cute and funny paintings (and prints of the paintings) as well as clay characters. I believe she’s also beginning to work on a set of Creative Thursday softies too!

She has names for her characters and little stories behind each of them. So cute! I don’t know what I like more – the vivid colors, the cute characters or the funny/cute stories about the characters.

She wants her viewer to “feel inspired to be more creative in your own life, and to surround yourself with color as you can't help but feel happy and alive in its presence.” She also states: “Just remember there is no limit to what we can do when we live to be FREE, Happy and TRUE and be CREATIVE every day, especially THURSDAYS!”

You can visit her etsy shop at: www. creativethursday.etsy.com

You can read her blog at: http://www.creativethursday.com/blog/

You can see her website at: http://www.creativethursday.com/index.html

Oh and FYI if you want to see her work in person and you are not near a gallery she is showing at, you can find it at your local Urban Outfitters.

size of canvas: 24" x 30" (61 x 76.2 cm)
depth of canvas: 7/8" (less than 2.5 cm)

This piece was inspired by pictures from a trip to California last year.  The photos I took are from the area near Turlock.  I love how there are acres and acres of crops and in the background, you can see mountains.  I couldn’t help but notice how there were telephone poles everywhere.

Cool Etsy Artist to check out: Orna*metal

I have to admit, I love earrings. Not like that’s a bad thing. A good pair of earrings can be the perfect way to finish off any outfit. So when I was looking for something new to add to my collection, I came across orna*metal on Etsy. Lauren LaPierre creates these stunning pieces that are so simple and elegant. I had to heart her shop and I felt compelled to tell you guys about it too.
When discussing her inspiration for her jewelry, she says it “has always been about the small, the hidden, sensual lines, and the shadow in the negative space…the tiny goodies in the crevices of life. I'm not always consciously aware that I'm pulling from those places, but they always make their appearance in my work.” You can see what she’s talking about at her shop.
And if you haven’t been told a hundred times before- Mother’s Day is coming up. Wouldn’t one of these beautiful pieces be a great gift for your mother, grandmother, aunt or someone who’s like a mother to you?

Cool Artist to check out: Cathy Nichols

I first came upon Cathy Nichols work about a year ago when I was just starting out on Etsy*. I fell in love with her image “Spun” which is the top image of the pictures above. I loved the story it possibly told. I loved the colors. I loved the imagery. I loved the sense of freedom. Cathy produces absolutely beautiful pieces. Each one has a feeling of a narrative as though you ripped it out of a book. It’s always nice to escape into one of her mixed media paintings.

Her original mixed media pieces can be found at http://www.cathynichols.com/

You can check out her blog at: http://cathynichols.blogspot.com/

*note that since this was published, she closed her Etsy shop but you can visit her blog or website to fine out more about her work.

These three guys have been good friends for a long time.
They’ve seen it all and done it all.
They remember Las Vegas the way it used to be.
And boy- do they have stories to tell!

Cool Etsy Artist to check out: The Wren

Oh how I love bags! If I could spend my money on one thing – it would be purses, totes and other bags. I know many women are into shoes – for me it’s bags. So you can imagine how excited I was when I came across the wren on Etsy.

The bags are beautiful. Some of her bags are made from traditional South African fabric. Other bags are made from the ends of fabric that is normally thrown away. That’s another cool thing about her shop – she makes sure her pieces are “motivated by sustainable principles”. All bags are handmade and each bag is unique (“by it’s combination of color and print”). They have hidden pockets, places for cell phones and wallets – what more could a girl ask for?
