I still love you, New York

Years in New York City:
1997 - 1997 (only 2 months but I count them)
1998 - 2007

Favorite memories from my life in New York:

Taking the Staten Island Ferry to work (I lived in Brooklyn & worked on the island for a year). Sitting on the side facing Brooklyn. It's the quiet side. There usually aren't any tourists on that side. In the morning, it was so peaceful. I'd sit and watch the boats & landscape. It is very gritty and urban and I loved every minute of it.

Standing on the roof of my apartment with my roommates, watching the 4th of July fireworks going off in multiple places at once. Coney Island. Manhattan. Staten Island. 360 degrees of festivities.

The outdoor holiday market at Union Square.  The smells, the people, the gifts to give. Loved it.

Exploring everything around the city. Taking the ferry out to Fire Island. Hiking out on Montauck.  Hiking along the Hudson River. Going up to Connecticut and visiting my friends there.  I love being able to hop on a commuter train and find a whole new community and area to check out.

Waiting in line on a Saturday morning for the best bagels. Seriously. They were so good you would wait 45 minutes for them too.

The parties and BBQs we had at both of the Brooklyn apartments I lived in. I'd look forward to them all year. They weren't out of control or anything. Just good people having a good time.

What about you? Do you have any favorite memories from a place you have to left?

  1. Blueberry angel food muffins from the coffee shop downstairs. The sound of the city wafting through the window. Riding the train and walking the streets on Halloween. The feel of a warm train after waiting on a cold, windy platform. Indian food and outlet shopping trips with one of your best friends.
I still love you too, New York. And friends I made there.
