A look at Just Breathe

 

For a number of years I have been inspired to change my landscapes to have even more sky so there is more color to draw the viewer to. Just Breathe is my first like this. I have kept the many thin layers of color in the sky and simplified the land. This image is of Lake Michigan and Chicago.

A look at The View From Here

 

I take a lot of walks along the lakefront. The View From Here was inspired by a photo I took on one of those walks. The image is of Chicago as seen from Evanston, IL. The piece was painted (and the walk taken) during lockdown. The city felt so far away even though it was close. I missed the energy of the city but also felt relaxed.

A look at Reflections

 

The painting reflections was inspired from a moment at the lake. It was an early spring afternoon and there was an interesting haze over the lake. I had never seen anything like it and decided to take a photo of it to paint it when I got in my studio. As I was working on the piece, the sky became much more animated than my other landscapes but it held the feeling I got at the lake that day so I kept it as is.

A look at Winter Pond

 

Winter Pond was created after I saw a peaceful space in a very crowded area of the Chicago suburbs. Sometimes we can find calm in unexpected places. This image is from Glenview, IL.

A look at Lake Fulfilled

 

A moment of quiet

found on a busy campus.

Lake Fulfilled was inspired by a walk I took on the Northwestern University campus. the lake-fill is one of my favorite places when I am on campus.

This painting was titled by C. Moore who attended NU. She wanted it to be a play on words - as it's the lake-fill and it's in a place where many dreams are fulfilled.

A look at In the Beginning

 

A winter day,

the crisp air,

a quiet lake,

a long walk to enjoy it.

In the Beginning was inspired by a photograph I took one winter while walking along the Lake Michigan in Evanston, IL. I titled this piece In the Beginning because when I was a kid in art class, we would go outside to the lakefront to paint and draw. I was usually found by the water witnessing the beauty of all the blues in the water and sky.
